ETHAN Moran’s first-half goal helped Evesham United upstage higher division Bromsgrove Sporting as the Robins booked their place in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

Moran struck five minutes before half time to stun Sporting at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

The Robins play one level below Southern League Premier Central side Sporting and dumped the Rouslers out of last season’s competition with victory at the Victoria Ground.

Evesham almost took the lead in the first couple of minutes when a goalmouth scramble ensued in the Sporting penalty box with the Robins unable to force the ball over the line.

And Sporting goalkeeper Ollie Taylor then tipped William Owens’ deflected effort from distance around the post while Billy Shaw shot straight at Robins stopper Dominic Hill at the other end.

However, Evesham broke the deadlock five minutes before half time when Moran’s well-struck drive found the bottom corner.

Sporting searched for a leveller in the second period as Conor Tee fired wide from long range while player-manager Mike McGrath had a goal ruled out for offside.

However, the Robins held on to book their place in the semi-finals for the second season in a row.

Evesham are next in action at home to Cribbs on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.
