EVESHAM United lost at home for the first time this year following a 2-0 home defeat against play-off hopefuls Berkhamsted.

Goals either side of half time from Ryan Blake and Luke Andrews at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium saw Evesham’s goal drought stretch to three matches.

The result means the Robins sit 13th in the Southern League Premier South table, just three points above the relegation zone.

Evesham made a bright start as Josh McConnell saw his shot narrowly miss the target inside the first minute.

Robins goalkeeper Alex Harris then produced a fine save to keep out Cameron Hyde’s powerful effort.

The visitors went close soon after as Ryan Blake’s effort from 12-yards out rattled the crossbar.

However, Berkhamsted eventually broke the deadlock on 33 minutes when Blake headed high into the net at the back post from Hyde’s cross from the left.

The chances continued to come the way of the visitors as Jose Sani twice went close while Blake headed inches past the post.

Evesham almost drew level early in the second period as Andre Wright drove down the left and flashed a shot across goal and narrowly past the post.

However, the visitors doubled their lead on 83 minutes as Andrews poked home from close range after the Robins failed to deal with a corner from the left following some pinball in the box.

Evesham are next in action against Uxbridge on Saturday, March 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Honeycroft.
