EVESHAM United saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end following a narrow 1-0 defeat away at struggling Dorchester Town.

A first-half goal from Joe Parker brought an end to Evesham’s unbeaten run as the Robins lost a game for the first time this year at the Avenue Stadium.

And the result means Evesham sit 13th in the Southern League Premier South table, six points clear of the relegation zone.

The Robins created a couple of early chances as Andre Wright saw his effort saved by Dorchester goalkeeper Gerard Benfield.

And Wright had another opening soon after only to shoot out of the ground after good work from Jyrel Bojang.

Dorchester responded with a chance of their own as Alex Harris denied Luke Pardoe at the second attempt.

The teams continued to trade chances as Benfield did well to save Kai Churchley’s deflected strike.

However, the home side broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when Parker finished into an empty net after Pardoe rounded Harris.

Parker almost doubled Dorchester’s lead soon after with a powerful strike which drifted narrowly wide of the post.

The Robins searched for an equaliser after the break as Amer Awadh sent another effort out of the ground while Lewis Middleton looped a header wide.

Dorchester should have scored a second goal late on when Harris fumbled Pardoe’s shot and reacted quickly to block Charlie Wooding’s follow-up.

Evesham are next in action against Sholing on Saturday, February 21 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
