A PAIR of early goals helped Evesham United to a 2-1 victory against Thatcham Town as the Robins stretched their unbeaten run to five matches.

Strikes from Alfie Dunn and Toby Raison put the home side in command inside 20 minutes before Samuel Tanner reduced the deficit for Thatcham after the break at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.

The result means Evesham sit third in the Southern League Division One South table, nine points behind leaders Yate Town.

Evesham broke the deadlock on 10 minutes when Dunn forced a header past Matthew Pullinger from close range after the Thatcham stopper kept out Reegan Messenger’s initial near-post header.

And the Robins doubled their lead on 20 minutes as Raison turned home a cross from the left at the back post unmarked from six-yards out.

Substitute Tanner halved the deficit on 71 minutes but United held on to close the gap to league leaders Yate.

Evesham are next in action against Willand Rovers on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 3pm at Silver Street.
