EVESHAM United stretched their unbeaten run to five matches following a 2-1 home victory against Wimborne Town.

Goals from Kai Churchley and Ethan Dunbar put the Robins in command at the break at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.

Wimborne halved the deficit late on courtesy of Will Fletcher’s goal but Evesham held on to remain unbeaten since the turn of the year.

And the result means Evesham sit 12th in the Southern League Premier South table.

The home side went close early on as Amer Awadh broke through the Wimborne defence only to shoot narrowly over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.

However, Evesham broke the deadlock on 13 minutes when Churchley cut inside of his marker and finished past Wimborne goalkeeper Ben Rodwell at his near post from Andre Wright’s defence-splitting pass.

The Robins went close to a second goal as Wright played in Dunbar only for Rodwell to make a crucial save in a one-on-one situation.

And the home side doubled their lead on 33 minutes when Dunbar beat the offside trap and produced an emphatic finish from close range from Churchley’s lofted through ball.

Wimborne threatened to reduce the deficit before the break as Alex Harris kept out Josh Carmichael’s powerful effort.

The visitors won a penalty early in the second half with Evesham penalised for handball in the box.

However, Carmichael’s penalty crashed against the crossbar with the rebound turned behind for a corner.

Wimborne eventually halved the deficit on 85 minutes when Fletcher poked home after Harris kept out Joe Smith’s attempted lob.

The visitors pushed for a leveller in the remaining minutes as Harris denied Lewis Williams to preserve the points for the Robins.

Evesham are next in action against Dorchester Town on Saturday, February 14 with kick-off at 3pm at the Avenue Stadium.
