AMER Awadh’s goal earned Evesham United a point in a 1-1 draw away at play-off chasing Farnham Town.

Awadh drew the Robins level on 73 minutes after Owen Dean put the home side ahead at the Memorial Ground.

The result means Evesham sit 14th in the Southern League Premier South table.

United spurned a glorious chance to break the deadlock early on after Josh Barlow’s lofted ball released Levi Steele through on goal only for Farnham goalkeeper Mike Eacott to smother the striker’s effort.

Farnham responded with a chance of their own as Bobby-Joe Taylor saw his curling free-kick from 20-yards out deflect narrowly over the crossbar.

Evesham goalkeeper Alex Harris then made a double save to keep the game goalless as he first parried Jack Dean’s header before denying Taylor on the rebound.

The home side remained on top as Harry Cooksley fired wide at the near post while Harris denied O Dean and Taylor once again.

Farnham thought they had taken the lead five minutes before half time only for J Dean to see his goal disallowed for offside.

And the Robins almost broke the deadlock moments before the break as Steele saw his powerful effort from 12-yards out cannon against the crossbar.

The visitors went close again after the break when Kai Churchley sent a curling shot inches past the post.

Evesham survived an almighty scare soon after as Ioan Richards cleared Dan Bayliss’s effort off the line but hit the underside of his own crossbar in the process as the ball dropped into the grateful hands of Harris.

However, Farnham took the lead on 58 minutes when J Dean’s header fell to his brother O Dean and the latter’s acrobatic bicycle kick from close range found the net.

The teams traded chances soon after as Churchley’s shot drifted wide of the post while Taylor flashed a shot across the face of goal at the other end.

However, the visitors equalised on 73 minutes when Awadh curled a shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the penalty area from Andre Wright’s lay-off.

Farnham had the ball in the net for a third time five minutes later but had another effort ruled out for offside.

And Richards produced a second goalline clearance in injury time as he cleared Taylor’s shot to safety despite Farnham appeals for a penalty.

Evesham are next in action against Chertsey Town on Saturday, January 24 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
