BROADWAY Golf Club’s ladies’ section came out in force to support their new lady captain Brenda Corfield as she hosted her drive-in event.
Having already successfully completed her first tee shot of 2017 at the weekend with the other club captains, Brenda was in the groove and began the nine-hole Stableford contest with a splendid tee shot which flew down the middle of the fairway.
The 45 other ladies followed and, with the course playing superbly and the weather set fair, the points soon began to accumulate.
Striding into top spot on the front nine was ladies’ vice-captain Maggie McDivitt who brought in an outstanding 23 points to take a worthy top spot.
In second place was Chris Saunders with an excellent 18 points, ahead of Lin Everitt who clinched third on countback.
Valerie de la Pena was triumphant on the back nine with a first rate 17 points, leaving Pat Beaman and Betty Thompson to battle it out for second and third positions, both with 15 points, but Pat claiming second spot on countback.
Brenda was delighted to announce that, through the kind donations of lady members, her chosen charity for the year – St Richard’s Hospice – had been boosted with an excellent £40 raised on the day.
