WITH the Christmas season fast approaching, Broadway Golf Club ladies competed in their Festive Hamper Run, which produced a Division One victory for Julia Fortescue with an excellent 19 points.

On a bright morning, albeit slightly breezy but with the course still playing superbly, ladies embarked upon their nine-hole competition with relish.

Judith Noyce achieved a commendable first spot in Division Two with 16 points and in Division Three Esther Pettitt clinched first place with 17 points. Ladies’ captain Brenda Corfield sealed victory in Division Four with 14 points.

All four winners won sumptuous Christmas hampers with further festive prizes going to all of the other 44 competitors.

Broadway’s men contested their third round Winter League contest over the weekend and it was Noel Hughes and Neil Swindlehurst who prevailed with an excellent 42 points.

Sixty pairs took to the tee for the shotgun start. It was an icy start but the morning soon brightened and second place in the greensomes contest went to Justin Loram and Ian Weatherhead with 41, ahead of third placed Peter Cockle and Joe Icke who also made 41 but were edged out on countback. Keith Burton and Jake Norman clinched fourth spot with 40 points.
