EVESHAM’S players are buzzing with excitement ahead of Saturday’s (noon) Worcestershire League Plate final against Ombersley 3rds.
The Vale side booked their place in the showpiece match at Himley Cricket Club thanks to a tight two-wicket victory against visitors Himbleton 2nds in Sunday’s play-off semi-final.
Himbleton posted 191-7 in their 40 overs before the star of the show in Evesham’s 194-8 in reply was Faizal Alam with a fine 79.
Having already taken 3-26 off eight overs, Alam then compiled a brilliant innings to rescue Evesham from 116-5 and lead the hosts to victory in just the 23rd over.
Twenty-four hours earlier Evesham had defeated Hanley Castle & Upton 2nds by nine wickets to top Plate Group C.
Visitors Hanley won the toss and chose to bat but were dismissed for just 103 in the 36th over as Farrukh Zaib, Muhammad Tahir Mirza and Zain Arshad all took two wickets apiece. Zaib’s wickets came at a cost of just two runs from his eight overs.
Syed Zain Ali then made an unbeaten 52 to lead the hosts home in just 14.1 overs.
