WORCESTERSHIRE have revealed pace bowler Adam Finch has signed a new four-year contract until the end of the 2027 season.

And speaking from Australia, Finch said he has set his sights on developing into a leader of the attack.

Finch had one year remaining on his current deal and was happy to put pen to paper for an additional three seasons.

Academy product Finch made significant strides forward in his progression last summer and finished top of the Worcestershire first class bowling averages of the regular members of the bowling line-up.

His 28 wickets in seven games included the first two five-fors of his senior career against Glamorgan at Cardiff and Yorkshire at New Road, plus seven wickets in the win over Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.

Finch, aged 23, made his first class debut in 2019 and has 61 wickets in 24 appearances in addition to 14 List A and 16 T20 games.

The former England Under-19 player is currently playing grade cricket in Australia for Sturt after recovering from an end of season back injury.

Finch said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign this new long-term contract. The aim is to play a full part in an exciting period for the club, particularly after gaining promotion to Division One of the County Championship.

“To sign for four years shows the faith and belief I have in Worcestershire and an indication that they feel I can play a significant role if I continue to develop.

“I was really pleased with how last summer went and the aim is to build on that and find ways of making an impact for the team and contributing.

“I want to become a senior leader of the attack, and hope that I can develop some similar characteristics to Joe Leach.

“He is such a great leader and hopefully I can look back when I am his age and think that was a period when I really developed, stood up for the team, tried to help everyone around me whilst also continually improving myself.

“That is a process where I’m not just going to wake up tomorrow and have those skills, but it is definitely something I want to achieve and feel that I’ve set idea in motion already.”

Worcestershire CEO, Ashley Giles, said:

“We’re so pleased that Adam has signed this new contract and we see him as someone having the potential to play a big role for us in the years to come.

“He is keen and hungry to learn to develop and you saw that in his performances last season when he played his part in gaining promotion.

“Adam is yet another example of someone who has come through the Academy and is now beginning to make big strides and I know he is relishing the challenge of Division One cricket that lies ahead this summer.”
