Ethan triumphs in memorial event

Evesham Editorial 5th Sep, 2017   0

THERE was an excellent turnout of 42 anglers for the 13th fishing of the Grant Davis Memorial Cup, held at Evesham Jubilee Angling Society fishery on Saturday on the Jubilee, Withies and Phil’s pools.

This match has a unique draw as each angler picks the peg to fish from by selecting a peg from the washing line after this name is drawn from the Charity Cup.

This year 16-year-old Ethan Etherington picked Jubilee 15, on only his second visit to the Jubilee fishery, and went on to win the match with 33lb 11oz.

Second was Steve Allen with 31lb 5oz, third was Ray Nosworthy with 30lb 10oz and fourth was Gary Seadon with the top weight off the Withies pool of 30lb 8oz.

Sections winners were James Allen (30lb 1oz), Colin Perry (27lb 15oz), Alan Gardner (19lb 13oz), James Gardner (16lb 9oz) and Bob Haynes on Phil’s pool with 2lb 8oz.

Top placed lady angler was Pat Evans with 9lb and the top junior angler was Harry Golder with 12lb.

Martha Davis presented her father’s cup for the 13th time to winner Ethan Etherington.

The charity barbecue and raffle raised more than £600 and many of Grant’s friends and family joined the anglers for plenty of food and drinks on the fine late summer’s afternoon.

Special thanks go to Grant’s family for organising the barbecue and to Mark Birbeck for running the match.

Over the last 13 years this match has raised more than £10,000 for St Richard’s Hospice in Grant’s memory.
