Division One title race is hotting up

THREE teams are level on points at the top of Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League Division One after an action-packed weekend.

Previous leaders Broadway United lost 5-4 in a thriller at now second placed Evesham WMC in which Ford (2), Grady, Dixon and Izod scored for the Workies and Parker, Rogers, Jeffs and Horsburgh netted for Broadway.

Bretforton Old Boys now lead the table on goal difference following a 10-5 victory at Cider Mill.

The home team scored through Reading (2), Ballard, Smith and Tomkotowicz but Old Boys hit double figures through Beddoes (3), Gayton (3), Baird, Johns, Gilbert and Schembri.




Mickleton Rangers and visitors Stour Excelsior drew 3-3 as Mills (2) and Beach found the net for Rangers and Wright, Godson and Harris did likewise for Stour.

Elsewhere, Inkberrow won 2-1 at Tewkesbury Town.


The top two are beginning to pull away in Division Two.

Leaders Offenham Rovers defeated visitors Bredon 4-1 with goals from Brain, Koshev, Rowley and Blanete, whilst second placed New Inn Pershore – the only team in the entire league set-up still with a 100 per cent record – thrashed in-form visitors Sun Inn 11-1 thanks to goals from Rushton (3), Kyle Ballard (3), Joel Ballard (2), Kelly (2) and Smith.

Quinton got the better of struggling visitors Dragons 5-1 through goals from Brocklehurst, Dyde, Hartis and Tom and James Drinkwater.

Harvington drew 3-3 at home to Charlton Old Boys in a match which saw Handy, Ferguson and Philpott score for Harvington and Old Boys register through Clements, Ainsworth and Le Neneveu.

The match between Alderton and scheduled visitors Cropthorne was postponed after damage caused by vandals driving over the pitch had left it unplayable.

Division Three leaders Fortis fell to a 4-2 defeat at home to Stratford United, for whom goals from Davies, Smith, Grinnell and Waldron boosted the visitors’ promotion hopes. Meynell and Rainey netted for the home team.

Veterans Paul Jones and Simon Brain scored for Bretforton Old Boys Reserves in their 2-1 home win over TDMS, whose goal was scored by Remekie.

Parker (2), Hensey (2) and Alright were on the mark as Evesham United Sunday defeated visitors Pebworth 5-0 and goals from Booth (3), Dawe and Rusher did the trick for Ambi Allsports as they defeated visitors and local rivals Bengeworth 6-0.

Ashton 88 won 2-1 at Stour Excelsior Reserves through goals from Johnson and White. Stour struck through Shurmer.

The league is now enjoying a three-week festive season break.
