Departing Town chairman Webb is proud of achievements

TIM Webb says he will step down as Pershore Town joint-chairman with a feeling of ‘mission accomplished’.

Webb announced he would be quitting his role after the final game of the season due to the pressure of other commitments.

Steve Bradstock will continue as chairman.

Webb admitted he had only planned a short-term stay when he helped save the club four years ago, but now the Midland League Division One side is stronger, stable and building for the future.

“Initially, I had only intended to fulfil the role short-term. Firstly, under the stewardship of Ken Tallis, and then myself jointly with Steve Bradstock, together with a dedicated, hardworking committee and other volunteers, in the last four years since becoming involved, we have turned the club around,” he said.

“Having taken on a situation where it was on the brink of closure, now it is stable, secure and self-financing. The club does not have any debt whatsoever and all the historical problems that we inherited have all long been resolved and paid off.

“New income streams have been introduced and we have a sizeable sum in a new floodlight fund that we set up more than a year ago.

“The junior section continues to thrive and the club’s future is secure.”

Despite a rollercoaster season, Pershore ended the season with much-improved form and Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Heather St John’s ended any relegation fears as they finished four points above the drop zone.

Quentin Townsend will continue as manager next season and is already looking at player recruitment together with at least one addition to the management team.
