THINGS are looking rosy for Evesham United after they bounced back from their FA Trophy exit to Halesowen Town to sink Willand Rovers 1-0 on Sunday.
Evesham’s latest victory in an impressive run of Southern League Division One South form leaves them fourth in the table – just five points behind leaders Frome Town with two games in hand – although second-placed Thatcham Town have three games in hand on Frome.
The only goal of the game arrived on 47 minutes when Paul Sullivan fired home a low strike from inside the box which proved enough to settle a tense game.
After Willand had wasted a gilt-edged chance to take a third-minute lead from close range, Evesham got on top and Sullivan was denied three times in a first half in which the hosts pressed.
He got his reward soon after the restart with the only goal of the game, which then became a scrappy affair.
Matty Dodd almost made it 2-0 and Sullivan then fired just over from long range, but there was a late scare when Lochie Robertson was forced into a fine save low to his right to keep the hosts ahead.
Evesham are without a game this weekend and return to action at Devon outfit Bideford on Saturday, November 2.
