SIXTEEN teams competed in Sunday’s Wychavon Parish Games petanque event in which each team played at least twice and some very close matches ensued before Crowle emerged victorious.
The play-off for third and fourth place was an all-Evesham affair, with Evesham North taking third place ahead of Evesham Bengeworth. Wick and Inkberrow shared fifth place.
The final was between two teams who had never been either winners or runners-up in the past, so there are new names on both trophies – Crowle as champions and Ashton-under-Hill as runners-up after a tight match.
Other parishes taking part were Norton & Lenchwick, Bretforton, North & Middle Littleton, Badsey, Broadway, Sedgeberrow, Eckington, Honeybourne, Wyre Piddle and Fladbury.
There is a gap before the next one-day event – the bowls – which will take place at Broadway Bowling Club on bank holiday Monday 26.
In the meantime, draw sheets for all the knockout events have now been sent out to all parish captains and matches in all these events will be starting shortly.
