WORCESTERSHIRE’S Josh Tongue marked his call up to England’s Ashes test squad with a five-for as England beat Ireland by 10 wickets at Lords.

The Pears pace bowler had taken the first three wickets to fall in Ireland’s second innings on Friday evening.

He followed it up on Saturday by dismissing Harry Tector and Fionn Hand to finish with figures of 21-2-66-5.

It was a proud sight for Tongue and Worcestershire supporters when he proudly waved the match ball all around the ground to rapturous applause and congratulations from his team-mates.

Tongue certainly enjoys his debuts at international level.

In the winter picked up eight wickets on his Test debut for England Lions against Sri Lanka, including another five-for.

His fourth scalp today came when Tector (51) carved a delivery into the hands of Harry Brook at gully.

Hand (7) was then pouched at second slip by Zak Crawley away to his right to cue celebrations for Tongue and a massive broad smile.

Ireland were eventually dismissed for 362, and then England reached 12-0 in their second innings to win by 10 wickets with more than a day to spare.

Tongue’s reward is to be part of the squad for the opening two matches of the Ashes Series at Edgbaston and Lords.
