STRONG and gusty winds under warm sunshine challenged the skills of the six crews who took to the River Avon for the July Handicap Series at Arden SC.
For the first race all six crews started and managed to stay dry throughout the race which, after handicap adjustment, saw Niall Campbell (Laser) take first.
David Brydon (Heron) finished second while David Yule (Heron) claimed third.
With winds gusting around the start line for race two, six crews soon became three as Yule capsized before the start.
Brydon and Ryder (Solo) then chose to gracefully retire.
This left Campbell to make it a clean sweep in first while the valiant efforts of Tricia Wood (Comet) and Simon Newman (Streaker) paid off when they finished in second and third respectively after both capsized.
The third race of the day was forced to be abandoned due to the worsening weather conditions.
