THE VALE Golf Club senior section’s TexAm competition was followed by the AGM on a busy day for the Bishampton club.
At the AGM, outgoing captain Derek Lambert handed over the mantle to his successor Andy Jinks.
Prior to that, on a pleasantly dry and occasionally sunny winter’s morning, 72 seniors enjoyed the conditions to play a TexAm on a course in a remarkably fine state for this time of year.
The outgoing captain played well as a team with David Millard, Mike Roberts and Larry Taylor to secure fourth position with 94 points.
However, winners were Erle Andrews, Geoff Mayneord, David Carrington and John Whale with 95 points, runners-up were Jim Knowles, Adrian Duggan, David Aylesbury and Bob Foster with 95 and third were John Turner, Tony Perryman, Brian Summers and John Easter with 94.
The high point of the ensuing AGM was Derek’s presentation to Andy of the new captain’s blazer, after which Andy was delighted to announce Peter Morris will be his vice-captain and the captain’s charity for 2018 will be St Richard’s Hospice.
Derek also announced the combined efforts of the senior section in 2017 raised more than £4,000 for his captain’s charity, The Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Three members retired from the committee and four were appointed in substitution by a unanimous show of hands.
