THERE were encouraging signs for Evesham’s Martyn Canning in round two of the British Racing and Sports Car Club Mazda MX5 Championship at Anglesey.
In practice on Friday, having had the the car set up by BC Cars Motorsport, Canning put in some good times with a much-improved car.
Saturday morning was qualifying for the race order and Canning set a good time as he qualified for race 1A.
The first race of the meeting was the rollover race 2B from the previous meeting at Snetterton and Canning had a fantastic race as, having started from 11th, he finished the race on the podium in third place.
Canning was consistent all weekend as he kept his place in the A races all weekend with some good times and was only two seconds off the race leader.
As the meeting was a double-header, there were three races. Canning now stands 14th out of 56 overall in the championship and is the highest placed rookie.
The next round will be at Oulton Park on June 25.
Canning would like to thank his sponsors SW&A Accountancy, Clarkson Evans and J&D Roofing.
