Busy time at the Jubilee Stadium

Evesham Editorial 28th Jun, 2018   0

BBC TELEVISION cameras will be at Evesham United’s Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday, July 4 when the 2018 Growers United Tournament kicks off with an evening game between Holt and Vicarage nurseries.

Entrance is free and a punnet of strawberries will be given to the first 100 people through the turnstiles.

Meanwhile, Robins boss Paul Collicutt has busily been putting together pieces of the jigsaw for next season’s United squad.

Stalwart Linden Dovey has signed up for the season and fellow defender Liam Harding – out for 14 months with a serious knee injury – has agreed to sign for 2018/19.

Goalkeeper Harvey Rivers, 22, has signed a one-year contract at the Jubilee Stadium. Rivers is a former Cheltenham Town youth team number one who has since played for Hereford, Bishop’s Cleeve, Cirencester Town, Gloucester City, Swindon Supermarine and, most recently, Yate Town.

Attacking midfielder Joe Tumelty was close to joining Evesham during the 2017/18 campaign, but ended up seeing out the campaign at Larkhall Athletic. However, the 23-year-old former Hereford, Frome Town and Cinderford Town attacking midfielder has now completed his move to the Jubilee.

Also on board is Marley Thomas, who can play wide or as a central striker. He was Slimbridge’s top scorer last season with 16 despite missing a chunk of the campaign with injury and the 23-year-old former Kidlington and Shortwood United forward was also their supporters’ player of the season in 2016/17.

Collicutt has also added prolific North Leigh striker George Seacole and defensive pair Shayne Anson and Nathan Summers to his squad.

Anson, 28, is a flexible defender who can be utilised anywhere across the back line and spent two seasons as player-assistant manager at Tuffley Rovers in the Hellenic League where he racked up 69 appearances.

Prior to that, he played 96 times in four seasons for Cirencester Town with 37 outings in the 2013/14 campaign when the Centurions won promotion from Evesham’s current level.

Seacole has scored plenty of goals at United’s level, including 35 for North Leigh during the 2016/17 campaign and 15 in an injury-hit season last term.

Centre-half Summers returns to senior non-League football after a year out during which he represented Hartpury College. The ex-Plymouth Argyle youngster played seven times for Westfields during 2016/17 having featured in 33 matches during Hereford’s Midland Football League title success and run to the FA Vase final at Wembley.

Elsewhere, popular former Evesham striker Adam Mann has joined National League South club Bath City.

Mann had looked set to join newly-promoted Southern League Premier Division club Swindon Supermarine but the 26-year-old has gone up another level to join Bath, who are managed by former Birmingham City right-back Jerry Gill.

Mann joined Evesham from Gloucester in January 2015 after a successful loan spell, helping them reach the play-offs in both 2016/17 and 2017/18, when they were beaten in the semi-finals by Salisbury and Supermarine respectively. He scored 22 league goals and 25 in total last term.
