TWENTY pairs competed in the mixed Barbara Stanley Trophy contest at Broadway Golf Club.

Presented in 1966, the trophy was donated in memory of Barbara who had been one of Broadway’s first ladies’ captains (1959-60).

The chosen format was a Foursomes Stableford and teams went out to enjoy an afternoon which provided very pleasant playing conditions.

Barb Buggin and her partner Matt Magee brought in a superb score of 37 points to secure victory and become proud owners of the admired trophies.

Close behind were runners-up Jane Wheeler and Steve Keyte who achieved an excellent 36 points, leaving Jenny Bruton and Robert Jones to take third place on countback.

Next up was the ladies’ England Golf Medal and nine-hole qualifier in which Irene Hawkes won the Medal with an outstanding 70 nett.

Jenny Buchan was Division One winner with a tremendous 72 nett and Liz Smith clinched second place with 74.

In Division Two, Jan Titley earned winning place with an impressive 73, leaving Esther Pettitt as runner-up with 74.

The nine-hole winner was Sue Byrd with 14 points, ahead of second and third placed Maureen Wheeler and Barbara McNaughton on countback.
