Broadway quartet win on home soil

BROADWAY Golf Club captain Jim Hutchison and ladies’ captain Brenda Corfield were hosts to their Joint Captains Charity Open AM/AM when they welcomed 148 competitors from more than 30 clubs across the country.

Whilst a little breezy, the day remained fine and all went out determined to enjoy their experience at Broadway. With two scores to count on each hole, Broadway’s quartet of seniors captain Chris Hunt, Brian Campbell, Bruno Giversen and Lloyd Stephens made full use of home advantage to bring in a fine 91 points for top spot.

Also scoring 91 points but finishing second on countback were visiting team Lee Egerton, James Richardson, Kenneth Sheridan and James Melfin who had travelled from Hagley Golf Club.

Captains Jim and Brenda were delighted to announce they had raised an incredible £2,970 from entry fees and raffle proceeds which will be divided between their chosen charities Bloodwise and St Richard’s Hospice.

The raffle prize of a magnificent family holiday was generously donated by Stuart and Lindsay Harris, a couple who for many years have enjoyed coming to play at Broadway from their club at Bewdley Pines.

Lucky winners were Broadway’s Ian and Judith Noyce who now look forward to visiting Le Pre Catelan in the south of France next June.

THE LADIES competed in their final qualifying Stableford of the season and, whilst the weather remained unseasonably mild, there was still a tricky wind with drizzle thrown into the mix too.

Unperturbed, ladies began to bring in some impressive scores and ladies’ vice-captain Maggie McDivitt scored a superb 35 points to take top spot.

Barb Buggin came a close second with a splendid 34 points ahead of Judith Noyce who earned a commendable third with 31 points and Valerie Steven fourth with 30.

Ann Fairbairn won the 9-hole competition with 14 points.

SEVENTY-FOUR Broadway men competed in their Division One and Two Medals over the weekend.

Whilst a little overcast to begin with, the weather soon improved and, with the course playing superbly, all relished the opportunity to play in their final Medal round of the year.

Jamie Thomas topped the Division One list with an exceptional 68 nett, ahead of Guy Madgwick and Stephen Pollard who took second and third places, both earning an excellent 69 nett.

In Division Two, Joe Williams carded 68 nett to clinch top spot, with Brian Wright sharing the superb score but finishing second on countback. David Kelsall was third with 69 nett.
