Broadway ladies tuck into a great contest

Evesham Editorial 28th Feb, 2017   0

AFTER a delayed start due to fog, Broadway Golf Club’s ladies were keen to get out and compete in their Lady Captain versus Vice-Captain competition.

Twenty-four pairs took to the tee for the Betterball contest, all out to support either captain Brenda Corfield or vice-captain Maggie McDivitt in their annual challenge.

The morning turned out well and, with the course playing superbly, all thoroughly enjoyed their game.

Although all matches were extremely tight, the overall outcome was rarely in doubt as vice-captain Maggie and her team secured an 8-4 victory.

All lady competitors, along with many other lady members unable to play on the day, then came in to enjoy tea and sumptuous cakes generously provided by Brenda and the ladies’ committee.

BROADWAY GC’s men competed in the final round of their Winter League contest at the weekend.

It was a mild but breezy day as the 56 pairs eagerly awaited the sound of the klaxon, heralding the start of the Betterball contest, with all determined to take full advantage of their final opportunity to seek top position.

Winners on the day were Gary Evans and Tom Roberts with a tremendous 50 points.

Achieving an excellent second with 47 were Chris Hands and Matthew Print, who edged Rob Lord and Neil Swindlehurst into third on countback. Will Livens and Paul Whelan clinched a worthy fourth place with 46.

The final scores will now be calculated and the 2016/17 Broadway Winter League winners will be presented with their awards at the Captain versus Presidents match in April.
