Broadway ladies duo progress in Daily Mail Foursomes

BROADWAY Golf Club ladies duo Isobella Lates and Chris Parkinson saw off opponents from Evesham to reach round three of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

The match was played in excellent spirit and featured some fine golf. The Evesham team of Melanie Evans and Joan Hunt went three up after three holes but Lates and Parkinson took advantage of excellent approach shots to claw back to all square and then go on to be three up at the turn.

They then halved a few holes before winning the 14th to take the match.

All four players performed extremely well and each hole had to be won with good shots, with not a single hole lost by bad play.

The Broadway pair now look forward to the third round draw later this month.

At the weekend, 88 Broadway men turned out to support either club captain Jim Hutchison or president Richard Rouse in their annual Captain versus President match.

With the sunshine wall to wall and the course providing fantastic playing conditions, good scores were there to be made.

There were some extremely strong pairings as Hutchison teamed up with club professional Tim Thornley to head up the field.

Highlights included Broadway junior Scott Davis scoring a hole-in-one on the par three eighth with a gap wedge!

Understandably proud of his achievement, Scott was awarded a box of golf balls by the captain.

All matches were hard fought and the president’s team ended 13.5-8.5 winners.

Forty-two Broadway ladies competed in a Stableford competition in which Annabelle Carter topped Division One with an impressive 36 points, ahead of Frances Friend in second with 33 and Debbie Donoghue in third with 32.

In Division Two, Jan Titley took top spot with a superb 35 points, leaving Valerie Steven second with 34 and Angela Sollis third with 31.

Jayne Potter then went on to win the Saturday Stableford with 31 points.
