Broadway duo savour superb successes

TWO of Broadway Golf Club’s ladies achieved extraordinary success when they competed in the Lady Marling Bronze and Silver Cups.

A county-run event, entrants came from far and wide to play in the Medal competition on a day which followed a course closure due to flooded greens.

After a damp start, the sunshine soon came out and ladies were able to enjoy their golf in much-improved conditions and Broadway’s Linda Carruthers found incredible form to bring in a magnificent 71 nett, also earning the Scratch Cup for best gross of 76 in the Silver Division.

Winning the Challenge Cup for best nett with 71 on countback from Carruthers was Rachel Paul from The Bristol Golf Club, whilst Broadway’s Chris Moulder went on to achieve a commendable nett 80 to earn her the Bronze Cup.

Carruthers was victorious again at the weekend when she played in the Ladies’ Stableford. On a day when glorious late summer’s sunshine made conditions extremely pleasant, she again played some fabulous golf to earn a superb 40 points to take winning position.

Sheila Lawson came in with an impressive 33 points to take a well deserved second place, with Lin Andrew achieving third with 31.

Later that same day, 38 of Broadway’s men turned out to compete for the prestigious King B Trophy. All those who have played in at least one of Broadway’s B team matches during the season were eligible to play for the highly-acclaimed award and the day chosen provided all competitors with perfect conditions for achieving top points in the singles Stableford.

Victorious on the day was Bernard Donoghue who brought in an outstanding 40 points to take the trophy.

Also doing extremely well but just losing out on countback was runner-up Bill Sollis, leaving Chris Smith to take third place with an excellent 39 and Joe Williams fourth spot with 38.

All came in to enjoy a sumptuous carvery provided by Broadway’s fabulous caterers – Fayreways UK Limited – after which the King B Trophy was presented.
