Broadway duo make Daily Mail Foursomes progress

PRESIDENT Richard Rouse and playing partner Warren McDivitt were victorious when they represented Broadway Golf Club in the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

After qualifying at club level back in 2016 with a magnificent 68 nett in a field of 48, the pair earned their place to go through to national level and their first draw was at home to The Vale Golf Club’s Ian Cocker and Mark Walters.

The match was extremely tight with some superb golf played by both teams.

The home pair were down after two holes, but both found fine form and went on to secure a convincing win as they took full advantage of their home turf.

Broadway’s duo will be hoping for another home draw when it is made later this month.

BROADWAY’S ladies contested the final round of their Winter League in wind and sleet but there was never any doubting the golfers’ commitment.

Determined to produce their best performance in the nine-hole better ball contest, all the ladies were competitive, but winners on the day with a superb 20 points were Linda Carruthers and Liz Smith who edged Maggie McDivitt and Debbie Donoghue into second place on countback.

Third were Julia Fortescue and Rachel Rigg with an excellent 19 points ahead of fourth placed Irene Hawkes and Kate Bellamy who scored 18 points.

The ladies now eagerly await the final positioning in the league table as final scores are calculated, with the ultimate victors being presented with their awards at the ladies’ spring dinner in April.
