Brilliant Bredon Hill pupils show sporting prowess

BREDON Hill Academy youngsters have enjoyed notable success on two sporting fronts.

The Ashton-under-Hill school are girls’ U13 county table tennis champions after emphatic victories which have booked their place at the National Team Championship on Saturday, January 13.

At the county event, Bredon Hill produced convincing performances to triumph 7-1 against both Blackminster – champions for the past seven years – and hosts St Egwin’s.

The Bredon Hill team, consisting of Rebecca Arrandale, Sophie Arrandale and Emily Grove (year eight) and Beth Pye (year seven) will now represent Worcestershire at the National Team Championship in the new year.




Bredon Hill were also dominant at the District Cross Country Championships and are now champions at year six boys’, year seven girls’ and year eight boys’ and girls’ levels.

They were runners-up in the year six girls’ and year seven boys’ competitions.


There were outstanding individual performances from Sophie Wilson who finished second in the year six girls’ event, Henry Houghton who was fifth in the year six boys’ race and Amelia Leather, Freya Jelfs, Martha Cross and Beth Pye who were second, third, fourth and sixth respectively in the year seven girls’ race.

Euan Styles and Fin Smith finished first and sixth in the year seven boys’ race, Megan Davies won the year eight girls’ event in which Annie Sime came fourth and Will Farr, Laurie Checkley, Tolly Wilson, Arthur South and Max Murray were first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth in the year eight boys’ competition.
