THE 40TH year of the Wychavon Parish Games finished with a bang when the presentation evening was held at Bretforton Sports Club.
The winners and runners-up in each individual event were presented with their trophies by either the event sponsor or Ed O’Brien or Sarah Greenhalgh from Severn Trent, which sponsors Wychavon Sport.
As this was the 40th year of the games, each of the individual event organisers were also presented with a small gift as a thank you for all their hard work.
These included Robin Such, who has been running the skittles for the past 28 years and Sue Collins, who has run the games overall for a similar length of time.
The Small Parishes Trophy was very closely contested this year, with Wick just edging past Wyre Piddle to take the honours.
The Richard Preece Cup for the highest placed medium-sized parish was won by Sedgeberrow and the Award of Merit was shared by Eckington and Harvington.
Overall runners-up were Badsey & Aldington, who last won this trophy in 1979 and, for the fourth year running, Bretforton emerged as overall winners with 152 points.
Overall trophies were then presented by Cllr Tony Rowley, chairman of Wychavon District Council. Twenty-six parishes and 1,100 players featured in the games.
