BOTH Bretforton Ladies hockey teams suffered defeats in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League on Saturday.

The first team went down 4-0 at home to high-flying Westberries 2nds in the North Division despite a spirited effort.

The hosts produced some creative hockey in the first half but failed to take their chances and a loose pass allowed the visitors to take the lead.

The second half was very open but again it was the visitors who were more clinical, although there positives for Bret in the performances of Lisa Workman and Dani Cox in midfield.

Bretforton will aim for their first points of the season on Saturday when they visit BAC.

Bretforton 2nds suffered a 5-2 defeat at home to unbeaten Newent 3rds in Severn Division Two.

Despite the scoreline Bret were pleased with their performance as three new teenage players found their feet in this match.

Bret trailed 3-1 at the break despite the best efforts of player of the match Hannah Dufty who had another fine game on the right wing, well supported by Ness Dufty in midfield.

The hosts’ first half goal came from lovely build-up play from the back as Andrea Cole collected the ball and fed Ness Dufty who teed up Hannah Dufty to convert.

In the second half Lucy Cole was denied by a fine save by the Newent keeper, but she was rewarded when another fine pass into the D from Andrea Cole picked out Lucy Cole who coolly took the ball around the keeper before scoring.

The 2nds visit Stroud 2nds on Saturday.
