Stroud Ladies 3rds 0 Bretforton Ladies 2nds 3
West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division Three
TABLE-TOPPING Bretforton Ladies 2nds are the only side with maximum points from four matches after another impressive performance on Saturday.
The visitors opened the scoring when good build-up from Emma Lowe and Lucy Cole in midfield resulted in a swift pass to Rosie Zubek who netted with an excellent reverse sweep strike.
Some good defending kept the involvement of Pink Ladies keeper Vicky Watkins to a minimum, although the stopper was called upon to make a couple of smart saves.
Crucially, Bretforton doubled their advantage before half time when more fine play from Lucy Cole and Lowe in midfield gave Zubek a chance to get another goal, but a good save by the keeper denied her, only for Mhairi Dunn to convert the rebound.
Bretforton captain Andrea Cole stressed the importance of not sitting back during the interval pep talk and her advice was taken on board as the visitors searched for the killer third goal.
It arrived when Dunn seized on a loose ball and netted her second of the match to put the outcome beyond doubt.
Bretforton, for whom Zubek and youngster Isla Clayton were named joint players of the match, host Newent 3rds on Saturday.
Bret’s ladies’ first team also maintained their 100 per cent record in Severn Division One with a 4-1 home win over Gloucester 3rds. The Pink Ladies – with three wins from as many games – host Cirencester 2nds on Saturday.
