Bretforton Ladies 2nds 1 Ross-on-Wye Ladies 0
West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division Two
BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds secured a third successive league victory on Saturday to move up to fifth place.
The first half was evenly matched as both teams had chances, with the hosts’ Jess Hadley unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions as she was denied by some sharp goalkeeping from the Ross stopper.
Bretforton maintained the pressure with some excellent work on the right and left wing by Emily Lacy and Hannah Dufty respectively.
Frustratingly, Bretforton could not make the breakthrough in the first half, but they continued to press in the second half as Andrea Cole and Ness Dufty in midfield kept the ball moving through the Ross defence as they tried to feed forwards Lucy Cole and Lacy.
Bret were rewarded with a short corner but were unable to capitalise on the opportunity, although the breakthrough finally came when Andrea Cole struck the ball into the D for Lucy Cole to collect and fire through the keeper’s legs into the goal.
Defender and player of the match Lorna Beddis made some crucial tackles late into the second half as Ross threatened an equaliser, whilst Lesley MacKinnon and Nat Benwell also played vital roles in defence as the hosts lost some composure in the latter stages of the match.
However, Bretforton held on to claim another three points and they will hope to continue their good form at Bourton & Sherbourne 2nds on Saturday.
