BREDON Hill Academy pupils have been hitting the opposition for six, enjoying notable success on the cricket pitch.

The eight-a-side under 13 girls’ team finished runners-up in the Worcestershire Schools Lord Taverners competition run by Worcestershire CCC.

The girls played a number of games and narrowly lost in the final to a strong Aston Fields Middle School (Bromsgrove) team.

Notable performances came from Katie Jones with the bat and Lottie Gilderson with the ball.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the competition and Darren Haines, a member of the PE department at Bredon Hill Academy, said: “It was great to see such a high standard of performance from our girls and the ability of other girls from a variety of schools.”

Bredon Hill’s under 13 boys’ team went one better as they defeated Aston Fields in a very close final which went to a bowl-off.

Both teams bowled and fielded very well and Jamie Everall clinched glory for Bredon Hill with the winning shot in the bowl-off over.

Tommy Boorman impressed behind the stumps and with the bat and there was some classy batting from captain Myles Holland.

“It is a pleasure to work with such talented players and I hope we can get further success going into hard ball formats of the game in the summer term,” added Mr Haines.

MEANWHILE, Bredon Hill’s year seven netball team have followed up their win in the autumn District League competition with victory in the District Tournament.

The girls won their home event without losing a game and conceded only a handful of goals.

On their way to top spot they defeated the Bredon Hill B team, Abbey Park, The De Montfort School, St Nicholas and St Barnabas.

PE teacher Ceri Speake said: “This is a very talented group of players and they should be very proud of what they have achieved this year.”

Bredon Hill’s B team finished in third place overall.
