THE BACK line proved the difference as Evesham continued their excellent Midlands Three West (South) form with a 33-11 home win over Old Wheatleyans in bitterly cold conditions on Saturday.
The victory was enough to lift Evesham into third place as a result of Rugby Lions’ draw at Southam and they also made ground on second placed Ledbury, who were beaten at home by leaders Old Coventrians.
Evesham, who have won five of their last six league matches, return to league action at Pershore on December 5, but before that entertain Cleobury Mortimer in the second round of the Midlands Senior Vase on Saturday in what should be an intriguing game as Evesham do battle with the side who they defeated 10-9 in last season’s North Midlands Vase final.
Saturday’s clash against Old Wheatleyans saw the forward packs evenly matched but the difference was in the back line as Evesham looked very dangerous with ball in hand and secured a try bonus point with some very good tries.
Man of the match James Bishop crossed the whitewash twice and Stu Smart, James Roberts and Sam Hopkins also scored tries.
