PERSHORE Town moved two points and places above the Midland League Division One drop zone thanks to a comfortable 4-0 victory at basement boys Southam United on Tuesday.
The bottom placed Saints – without a league win all season – are all but consigned to relegation, but the six teams above them are separated by just five points.
Town took the lead after two minutes when a free kick into the area was controlled by captain Shaun Griffiths, who laid the ball to Steven Roche to score with a left-footed shot into the corner of the net.
Town increased their lead in the 13th minute when Southam failed to clear a corner and Richard Thomas-Robinson fired home from close range.
Town’s Ben Lane scored the third before the break having gone past a defender into the box before driving a right-footed shot past the keeper.
Pershore scored again seven minutes into the second half when Chris Whittaker’s free kick was whipped into the box and Reece Jacobs neatly finished on the volley at the back post.
Town entertain second placed Leicester Road – beaten 1-0 at Lichfield City on Tuesday – on Saturday.
