Ashton off to a flying start

PROMOTED Ashton 88 started life in Evesham Sunday League Division Two with a convincing 9-1 win over Stour Excelsior.

Matt Ingle, Will Stevens and Bradley Mason all scored twice, with Jordan Richardson and Josh Keen also on the scoresheet.

Goals from Matt Magee and Connor Sherry opened Strawberry Field United’s account in a 2-1 win over Fladbury, for whom Will Green scored.

New-boys Drakes Broughton Rangers were beaten 3-1 at Pebworth. The home side’s goals came from Tom Benfield (2) and George Mallory.




Joshua Barber gave Stratford HGC an interval lead over Cropthorne who levelled matters in a 1-1 draw through Ryan Griffin.

In Division Three, Vale United bounced back from an opening day defeat to trounce Dragons 7-1 as Keiren White (3), Paul Law (3) and Phillip Young scored the goals and Dion Mayhew grabbed a consolation for Dragons.


Harvington Harriers thrashed Bengeworth 10-1, with the league newcomers’ goals coming from Joshua Barnett (3), Jonny Robinson (2), Ben Salter, Mark Onens, Nathan Lewis, Sam Leight and Adam Ayres.

Tewkesbury-based Alderman United defeated Ashton 88 Reserves 6-2 as veterans Jake Petitt (3) and Antanas Brazdys (2) got among the goals.

Stour Excelsior Reserves were made to work hard before overcoming Titans 2-1. Alex Gregg and Nick Shurmer scored for Stour and Sam Cook netted for Titans. Elsewhere, Fortis defeated Bredon 5-3.

Broadway United earned their first points of the season in Division One by defeating Alderton 4-1 thanks to Will Aspey’s hat-trick and Ben Carter’s goal. Ian Dawson scored for the visitors.

An Alex Griffiths treble earned Inkberrow an excellent 3-1 win at Evesham WMC, for whom Elliott Grady scored.

Both Bretforton teams continued their perfect starts as Sports Club defeated New Inn Pershore 5-2 with goals from Will Gayton (2), Lewis Fathers, Ryan Cantrill and George Kirby. New Inn scored with goals from Jordan and Jake Brant.

Meanwhile, champions Old Boys won 5-2 at TDMS Harvington. Worcester City player Sean Brain (2) was on target along with Luke Richardson (2) and Phil Davis. Luke Woodfield scored twice for Harvington.

Mickleton Rangers and Offenham Rovers drew 2-2 as Daniel Moore scored both Rangers goals and Rovers netted with goals from James Cresswell and Ryan Harris.
