ARCHERY - Evesham archers set new national records

JACQUIE Holmes set a new national record with a near perfect set of arrows as the Evesham archer was on top form at the 42nd Open Western Tournament.

The event, held by Wyre Forest Company of Archers at Stourport Cricket and Rugby Club, saw seven Evesham Archery Club members compete in the Western competition.

And the competition involved shooting eight dozen arrows over two distances of 50 and 60 yards as a slight gust made conditions problematic when shooting.

And Holmes stole the show with an outstanding performance in the ladies compound category as she scored 862 out of 864 available points.

Additionally, only one of her arrows was out of the gold target zone as Holmes deservedly won the trophy to become a new national record holder.

And fellow Evesham archer Linda Haines took second place and set a possible national record in the 50-plus women’s compound category.

There were also podium finishes for Alfie Wilkes and Tom Hennessy who came second and third respectively in the gents compound category.

Evesham Archery Club are hosting a leg of the National tour events next month as the best archers from across the country take part including world record holders and Olympians.
