BROADWAY Golf Club’s outgoing club captain Andy Basford has been busy totalling up his charity fund following a highly successful 2019 at the helm.
Proceeds of more than £6,500 were earned from the many golfing and social activities run by the club in aid of Andy’s chosen causes, which are Myeloma UK and Maggie’s (Cheltenham).
Both are fantastic and worthwhile causes, supporting cancer research and treatment aftercare respectively.
Maggie’s (Cheltenham) provides practical, emotional and social support to complement the excellent medical treatment the NHS provides and it benefited to the tune of £4,198.55.
Andy met with some of the many volunteers who help there and knows a number of family, friends and golf club members who have found comfort in this very special place.
The other cheque Andy had to present was for a superb £2,355.72 to Myeloma UK, for whom Zoe Meldrum-Craig will receive the cheque to go towards the incredible work they do in the discovery, development and access to new and effective treatments for the blood cancer.
Andy said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of Broadway’s members who generously supported me throughout my year of captaincy, but in particular would like to say a huge thank you to member Bill Cook for his sponsorship contribution through his ‘Dry February’, which took the final for the year up to an amazing £6,554.27.
“Both charities are over the moon with the contributions they have received from the Broadway Golf Club membership.”
