LIN ANDREW was in red-hot form to take the Ladies Club Championship at Broadways.

On one of the hottest days of the year so far and equipped with plenty of iced water and umbrellas to provide welcome shade from the midday sun, the competitors were determined to enjoy their 36-hole gross challenge.

As the morning session ended, things were exceptionally close and players went out to complete their second 18 holes with very few points separating the leaders.

There was never any doubting the victor, however, as Andrew soared into an unreachable lead with a magnificent 167 gross to take the Ladies Champion’s title and earn the prestigious trophy.

Vicky Watkins secured a worthy second placing with a deserved 176 to earn the runner-up’s Salver prize.

Ladies Captain, Maggie McDivitt, found exceptional form achieving a best nett score of 146 to win the beautiful crystal vase which was generously donated by longstanding Broadway member Julia Ward.

Later in the day, other ladies were out to support the Championship Day Stableford. Played over 18 holes, Brenda Corfield achieved a notable first place with a superb 38 points. Valerie Steven was a close second with 37 and Nadine Simpkin third with 36.

Jack Drury returned an astonishing 64 nett to claim the Junior Open on a day of some magnificent scores.

Whilst the temperatures remained high, the youngsters showed not only great talent but impeccable golfing etiquette too.

Drury took the title with 64 nett. A former member at Broadway, he now represents Cotswold Hills Golf Club and plays off a handicap of 2. His prize was professional shop vouchers along with a beautifully engraved crystal goblet.

Joshua Griffiths, from Stratford-upon-Avon, took a very close second with 66 nett, ahead of home player Sonny Nangle who was a worthy third with 67.

Also played for on the day was a Stableford competition for the Tams Cup, presented in 1995 by former Club Captain, President and Junior organiser Frank Tams for the 29-40 handicap group and this was won convincingly by Broadway’s William Jones with a superb 53 points.

Ryan Wright was second with an excellent 48 points, with James Sutherland third with 42.
