ALDERTON won the Pershore Hospital Minor Cup for the second successive year as they defeated Bretforton Old Boys Reserves in a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw.
In a very even game Bretforton took the lead, only for Alderton to equalise through a second half penalty.
In the Junior Cup final the following evening Hallow, with the help of two penalties, defeated Evesham WMC 4-0 to retain the trophy.
MEANWHILE, it is the end of an era with the news the Hospital Cups will no longer run.
The competitions have been in existence for more than 100 years and raised many thousands of pounds for local charities but, due to various issues, they will cease.
The cups have struggled for the last few seasons and, had it not been for the help of the Rotary Club, they would already have folded.
Competition chairman Terry Conway and secretary/treasurer Alan Barnett have decided to resign and would like to thank the sponsors who have provided backing over the years.
Special thanks go to Judy Gardner of Eckington Manor Cookery School and president Richard Williams who, despite ill health, has worked hard to support the cups.
Various others including Martin Malin and Malcolm Harris have made big contributions, not least the teams and supporters.
