Youth centre set to benefit from Pershore Carnival donations

Evesham Editorial 12th Mar, 2017   0

ORGANISER’S of the popular Pershore Carnival have revealed which charity will benefit from the money raised by the event.

This year the Pershore Riverside Youth Centre is the carnival’s chosen charity and funds raised from the event, to be held on Monday, May 29, will be donated to the centre.

Carnival Chairman Colin Shephard said: “Each year we raise money for our chosen charity through our street bucket collection which takes place during the procession.

“This year the committee felt that as Carnival is a day to celebrate Pershore and its people of all ages, the monies collected should benefit one local Pershore group.

“I am delighted to announce that this year the recipient will be the Pershore Riverside Youth Centre – an absolute fantastic asset to the town of Pershore and an invaluable resource to all our youngsters.”

Alex Mellor, Centre Development Manager, said: “Absolutely fantastic news. The centre, until four years ago, had been fully funded by the local authority. That funding is now greatly reduced and is to cease in 2019, so the news that we are to receive this support from Pershore Carnival is wonderful.”

And as we get closer to the popular event, the Mayor of Pershore Coun Bob Gillmor and his consort Sandra Young have selected this year’s carnival royalty.

The 2017 Pershore Carnival Royalty are, King Corley Frost, aged nine from Abbey Park First School, Queen Kayleigh Cottrill, 9, from Abbey Park Middle School, Prince Riley Rusher, aged 8 from Pinvin First School and six year-old Princess Rosie Barnett from Holy Redeemer First School.

Lily Rusher, 6, Maisie Bicker, 6, and Rhys Samuel, 7, were also appointed to the new role of Special Ambassador to Pershore Carnival.

The next Carnival event is the Children’s Programme Cover Competition which will run from Saturday, March 11 to Saturday, March 18 at Pershore Library where budding artists can drop in and have a go at designing the front cover based on the 2017 theme ‘The World of Music.’
