Your guide to the Bank Holiday weekend in the Vale

STUCK for something to do this Bank Holiday weekend? Then fear not as the Observer has put together a handy guide of all the events taking place across the Vale this weekend.

With many of us set to enjoy a three day weekend there are plenty of events going on for all the family to enjoy, no matter what the weather brings us.

Saturday

Evesham Angling Festival

This weekend thousands of anglers from across the UK will gather in Evesham for the 38th annual festival.




Entry to the festival is free which takes place from today until Monday along the River Avon.

There will be a full festival village featuring great bargains on fishing gear, clothing and footwear based on the Crown Meadow.


Youngsters can enjoy the fun fair and angling coaching, as well as a craft village and country produce stalls for the adults too.

 

Beer & Cider Festival at the Lenches Club in Church Lench

A number of local breweries will be showcasing their beers and ciders at the festival, including Hook Norton, Purity, Boat Lane and Hogans. There will also be a range of cocktails and gins on offer.

The festival runs until Monday and there will be live music all weekend long.

There will also be children’s activities, a handmade market, raffle and tombola.

Pershore Plum Festival

The festival officially kicks off today with an array of events and activities taking place, including:

  • Entertainment featuring Ray Izod and The Plumstones.
  • Official opening by winner of the 2015 BBC MasterChef: The Professionals, Mark Stinchcombe and 11.30am.
  • Trade stands and horticulture advice from the Vale Landscape Heritage Trust in Plum Alley.
  • Festival-themed shop windows.
  • River Boat Trips with Avon Leisure Cruises at The Angel Hotel.
  • The Big Plum Beer, Food and Music Festival at The Angel Hotel.

Sunday

Pershore Plum Festival

The festival continues with family fun events in Abbey Park from 9.30am:

  • Plum Plodders 10k race starting at 10.00am, finishing in Abbey Park.
  • Plum Pooches in the Park Dog Show at 11.30am.
  • Entertainment in the Bandstand
  • Food Village, a variety of hot food, alcoholic and soft drinks.
  • Handmade Craft Market provided by Sketts.
  • Pershore Town Plan consultations
  • Trade stands including Vale Landscape Heritage Trust
  • South Worcestershire Lifeguards

Badsey Soapbox Races

The popular event returns as soapbox racers attempt the course from the top of Knowle Hill to the finish line at Badsey Brook.

The first race starts at 1pm, followed by the second run at 2pm.

Evesham Bands in the Park

This week Blackwell Concert Brass will be performing in the band stand in Abbey Park from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.

 

Hampton Working Men’s Club Summer Fayre

Entry is free to the event which starts at 12pm. There will be fun for all the family including, stalls with local traders, a tombola and raffle. The bar will be open too.

 

Broadway United Allstars Vs The Jockeys

A charity match is taking place between the two sides at Broadway United’s grounds to raise cash for the Injured Jockeys Fund.

The game kicks off at 2pm and entry is £3 for adults and children go free.

There will also be live music, a bbq, bouncy castle, raffle and an auction.


Monday

Family Fun Day at the Lenches Club in Church Lench

A family fun day and market will be taking place at the club which will feature more than 15 stalls with local makers, growers and independent businesses.

There will be activities for the youngsters to enjoy, a bouncy castle, live music, raffle, tombola and a barbecue using locally sourced burgers and sausages.

Entry is free to the event.

Pershore Plum Festival

The pinnacle of the festival is always Bank Holiday Monday as the town is painted purple for the biggest day on Pershore’s event calendar.

Events on Abbey Park include:

  • Arts Trail by local artists from Pershore
  • Classic Cars including Rolls Royce, Jaguar owners, MG and more!
  • Food Village, a variety of hot food, alcoholic and soft drinks, with seating available.
  • Abbey Tower Tours from 11.00 | £4 adults and £2 children (7 – 16yrs)
  • Teddy Parachute Drops inside the Abbey at 11.30pm, 13.30pm and 15.30pm.
  • Teddy Zip Wire Drops outside the Abbey at 12.30pm and 14.30pm.
  • World War 2 Display
