Your chance to vote for Tesco charity winners

Evesham Editorial 7th Apr, 2018   0

A RALLYING call has gone out to Evesham shoppers to lend their support to local groups after the town’s Tesco store unveiled the latest good causes bidding process.

Three town causes are once again in the frame for a share of the £7,000 the supermarket giant has on offer as part of its Bags of Help project which sees money raised from the sale of plastic carrier bags handed over to benefit local groups.

Shoppers will be given a token at the end of their shop and asked to vote for one of three causes which this month are: Evesham Rugby Club, the Garage Art Group and the Learning Through Landscapes project at Evesham Community Hospital.

Members of Evesham Rugby Club hope shoppers will scrum down and help them in their bid for a new tractor to tend to their pitch following the demise of the previous vehicle which has been in use for a staggering 25 years.

Evesham RFC chairman Alastair Sands said: “With nearly 300 children and three senior teams using the pitches every weekend, maintaining the grounds to RFU standards requires hours of painstaking maintenance.

“Without a tractor it just wouldn’t be possible. The Tesco Bags of Help Scheme will make a big difference, and it would mean the world to 300 youngsters to know we’ve the support of Tesco’s customers as well.”

Garage Art Group aims to support people with mental health problems and learning difficulties so they can live more independent lives and develop and express themselves through art.

The groups focuses on the benefits of art to aid people’s health and well-being and is open to the general public, from complete beginners to proficient artists.

This year, they have started a children’s after-school programme headed by professional arts tutors and the group hope any money its receives from the scheme will boost the efforts to inspire people through art.

Team members from Learning Through Landscapes hope any cash they receive will go towards a project to transform the garden of a residential home for people with dementia at the town’s Community Hospital so residents and local community members can spend more time outside.

Voting is already under way and finishes on Monday, April 30.

Lindsay Roach, Tesco’s Community Champion for Evesham, said: “Again all three groups are local so the total £7,000 will be donated by Tesco to our local community.”

“If local groups don’t apply then they won’t give Evesham customers a chance to vote for their group.”

Any local groups who would like to discuss a possible application can e-mail Lindsay at [email protected] for more information.
