Your chance to get picking

Rob George 14th Mar, 2020   0

ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly Vale residents are being urged to pick up their litter pickers and help clean up Wychavon as part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

The campaign runs from next Friday (March 20) to April 13 and will see up to 600,000 people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.

Wychavon District Council is encouraging people to take part by joining its Adopt a Street scheme. Individuals, community groups or companies are asked to choose a street or area they will pledge to regularly litter pick. In return Wychavon provides free litter picking kit, which people can keep, and will arrange to take away large amounts of litter.

More than 200 residents and businesses have already signed up from all parts of the district.

Coun Emma Stokes, executive board member for Environment, said: “Wychavon is supporting the work of our volunteers by having already introduced new powers for our Civil Enforcement Officers to fine people littering from their vehicles, installing new litter bins and taking targeted action in specific grot spots.
