YOUNGSTERS across Pershore are being invited to lace up their running shoes for a popular event in the town’s Abbey Park.
Kids Run Free will be welcoming Mayor of Pershore, Coun Bob Gillmor, to their regular Saturday morning running event next Saturday (August 13).
The respected councillor has chosen Kids Run Free as one of the his charities for his year in office.
Kids Run Free organises free children’s running races in parks and open spaces around the country to help children keep active, get fit and hopefully embed a running culture in children from a young age.
All children, from toddlers up to the age of 16 are welcome to go along to Abbey Park at 8.45am for 9am to have a go at popular free running events.
Dash, the Kids Run Free mascot, will also be going along to meet the mayor and run with the children.
Race Director Jane Gordijn and her group of volunteers are the driving force behind these successful events and have been working hard to encourage as many children as possible to go along every second Saturday of the month since its launch in May 2015.
The events take place, whatever the weather, throughout the year, as the charity wants to promote an active lifestyle come rain or shine!
Speaking at the launch, Coun Gillmour said: “Kids Run Free is a great way to put fun into fitness and inspire children to enjoy running.
“I am very pleased to welcome them to their latest venue in Pershore and bring an exciting new use to Abbey Park,” he added.
The Kids Run Free mission is to create fun, sustainable running opportunities for 0-16 year olds, igniting their passion for sport and physical activity and allowing them to become healthier, happier, more confident children.
Admission and entry is free, organisers only ask children are registered online before they attend.
Anyone who wishes to get involved as a volunteer and help run the event can e-mail Project Manager, Sisi Tsoi on firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
