Youngsters invited to make music

Evesham Editorial 10th Apr, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE ANNUAL Evesham Festival of Music is set to kick off with the iconic Young Musician of the Year competition for 2015.

One of the highlights of the Evesham Festival of Music since its inception has been the Young Musician competition.

Once again this competition, which has been so successful in previous years, will take place on June 24 at St Peter’s Church in Bengeworth at 7pm.

Sponsored by the Festival of Music Committee and generously supported by the John Martin’s Charity, the competition aims to stimulate interest amongst local young musicians, providing them with an opportunity to demonstrate musicianship skills by performing in public.

Junior applicants must be under 13 by August 31 while senior competitors must be under 18 on the same date to enter.

In both junior and senior sections, the classes are divided into piano and keyboard, vocal and miscellaneous, woodwind and

brass and strings and guitar.

Students are free to enter if they attend one of the high schools in Evesham, one of the four middle schools or any of the primary schools that lead to these schools.

If they live in the Evesham area, but are educated elsewhere, they are still able to enter the competition provided they fall within the age guidelines.

Entries must be received by April 17 and the preliminary rounds of the competition will take place on Saturday, May 16 from 9am at The De Montfort School.

The Winners of each class and best “runners-up” will take part in the final of the competition on June 24.

Full details and application forms can be viewed on the Evesham Festival of Music web site. Application forms are also with the schools mentioned above.

This year’s Evesham Festival of Music takes place between June 20 and 27.
