WYCHAVON has been named as the third best place to live in the UK by Halifax’s Quality of Life Survey 2016.
The district, which takes in Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, finished behind second place Winchester and the Orkney Islands who took the top spot in the survey.
A range of factors were taken into account to find the UK’s best places to live, including; employment rates, earnings, housing, health, education, personal well-being and leisure facilities.
Wychavon, which jumped 42 places compared to last year’s survey, scored highly in the personal well-being section, as well as having a higher male and female life expectancy rate than many other places around the country.
The survey also found the district has a large number of pubs and bars per 10,000 adults, and the third highest number of health and fitness clubs- with 3.5 per 10,000 adults.
Coun Linda Robinson, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “Those of us who call it home already know Wychavon is one of the best places to live in the country but it’s fantastic to have it confirmed, once again, by the Halifax Quality of Life Survey.
“It is particularly pleasing to see the district score so highly in the personal well-being survey.
“We’re not complacent though and we know there are many issues our residents are concerned about. We are working hard to tackle them to so we can help make Wychavon an even better place to live, work and visit.”
Evesham’s MP, Nigel Huddleston, said: “This fantastic result for Wychavon comes as no surprise to me and is a deserved reflection of the tireless efforts of the local council and local public services in the area, which are widely recognised as amongst the best run in the country.
“Wychavon is a beautiful area, with an abundance of fantastic schools, shops and pubs and I feel privileged to represent such a picturesque and well-serviced corner of the UK in Parliament.
“I will continue to work with our councils to maintain this lofty position as the third best placed to live in the country – perhaps we can even build on this result and displace Orkney and Winchester next year.”
