A SPECIAL flag raising was held by Wychavon District Council to honour the country’s Armed Forces.

Coun Robert Raphael, Chairman of Wychavon District Council, raised the Armed Forces Day flag high above the Civic Centre as a visible show of support, ahead of Armed Forces Day tomorrow (Saturday, June 24).

Armed Forces Day is a chance to thank service personnel past and present, service families, veterans, reservists, cadets and volunteers – for everything they do.

Across the world the country’s Armed Forces are busy promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.

The ceremony offered a chance to reflect on their contribution as well as remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Coun Raphael said: “It was a privilege to be able to raise the Armed Forces Day flag in support of our Armed Forces community.

“It’s important we take time out to thank all those working hard around the world to protect us and recognise the sacrifices they and their families have to make.”

Wychavon is signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant which is a commitment to ensuring those who serve or who have served, and their families, are treated fairly with the same access to government and commercial services as other people.

As part of The Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership, Wychavon works with partners including Worcestershire County Council, voluntary and charitable organisations to support veterans.
