MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays when a £2.2million scheme to improve water pipes in Evesham moves into its second stage.
Severn Trent is delivering more than seven km of upgraded water pipes between Fladbury and Greenhill in Evesham and work began last month on the Worcester Road.
The investment will help to ensure customers have a reliable water supply, as the new pipes will mean fewer issues such as bursts, which can be a problem with older pipes.
Roadworks have been in place on the Worcester Road since the New Year and work will get underway on the A44 at the Salters Lane junction on Monday (February 27).
The full programme to install the new, upgraded water pipes is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Paul Hughes, Community Communications Officer at Severn Trent, said: “While our network serves our customers and communities well, as pipes get older, it’s vital we upgrade them so our customers can continue to enjoy a reliable water supply.
“It’s important for us to know tour pipes in the area are fit for the future, and in the best possible condition, as this minimises the chances of any potential issues such as leaks or bursts, that can cause issues.
“We know that there have been problems with pipes bursting in the area, and that’s something we want to stop – which is exactly why we’re investing this money, to do just that.”

This project is part of a wider £3.4 million package of works scheduled to take place across Worcestershire. In total, the works will see an additional 5km of water main replaced.
Customers are invited to a drop-in session which will be held on Tuesday (February 28 at Lower Moor Village Hall on Cherry Orchard Road from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
