Work starts on new Oat Street toilet improvement scheme

Evesham Editorial 19th Dec, 2022   0

WORK has started to upgrade Oat Street toilets in Evesham as part of Wychavon’s latest improvements to their award-winning loos.

The toilet block is being given a complete internal refurbishment including new floor and wall tiles, Propelair toilets and LED lighting. It will also have a new Changing Places toilet installed offering greater facilities for people with a variety of disabilities.

They include specialist equipment such as a ceiling hoist, adjustable height changing bench and extra space compared to a standard disabled toilet.

Work should be completed by spring 2023. Portable toilets have been placed next to the block while the refurbishment is carried out.

The project is being part-funded by a £210,000 grant from the Government to increase the number of Changing Places toilets. Two more are planned to be installed in other locations across the district. Five of Wychavon’s toilet blocks already have Changing Places facilities.

Coun Emma Stokes, executive board member for Resident and Customer Services, said: “This is the first time in more than 20 years Oat Street toilets have had a major refurbishment. I’m delighted as part of that we’re going to be able to increase access to much-need facilities for our residents and visitors with disabilities.

“We know how much people value our public toilets and that’s why we continue to invest in them.”
