Worcestershire's oldest village brass band needs you

THE TRAINING band of Bretforton Silver Band, Bret Prep, is looking for new players to join in with the music making.

The oldest surviving village band in the county particularly needs cornet players, although musicians of all brass band disciplines are very welcome.

Bret Prep offers an ideal environment for those who have previously played and would like to return to music, as well as for developing players looking to build their confidence.

Rehearsals take place on Sunday mornings during term time, from 10.30am to 11.15am at the band’s own building in School Lane in Bretforton.

Players should ideally be around Grade 3 standard and able to read music, with the added bonus of instruments that can be provided free of charge.

The band performs regularly throughout the year and has a busy schedule ahead, including several appearances over the summer months at Pershore Midsummer Brass, Bretforton Village Proms and the

Bretforton Band Supporters’ Fete as well as a number of festive engagements later in the year.

For complete beginners, the band also runs Bret Set Go, which rehearses on Sundays at 10am and welcomes complete beginners of all ages.

Band secretary Laura Hunt said: “Being part of a brass band is a rewarding and sociable hobby that can last a lifetime, and new members can be assured of a warm welcome.”
